Ling and Master Wu by Carlos Martinez Garcia
Drawn image of a young Ling with her first teacher, Master Wu. The two stand in mirrored poses, where their feet are spread far apart as they crouch with their weight centered. Ling's left hand crosses her body, while she stretches out her right palm, where a small flame emerges. Master Wu demonstrates the same pose at her side in his smoke grey yī-fu; his long hair is pulled back from his face and his light grey beard flows in the wind. Ling’s black locks are pulled back in the same fashion while she is dressed in a red uniform with white trim. In the background, an arched footbridge crosses over a rushing river to two grassy hills. Atop the smaller hill is a stone structure of a sitting Buddha. On the larger hill is a red temple with a dark green roof, enclosed by tall grey stone wall. Where the two hills meet at the bottom, is a fringe-tree without its white blossoms. In the far distance to the left is a mountain with a snow dusted peak visible through white fluffy clouds against a blue sky. White birds soar amongst the clouds as sunlight peeks through on the right of the drawing.
